Examination of Witnesses (Questions 498
WEDNESDAY 21 MAY 2003
498. Good afternoon and thank you for being
with us. We are grateful to both bodies for being with us this
afternoon. We are grateful also for each of you putting in a paper,
which has been extremely helpful. As you would expect, there are
various questions we would like to put in the light of your submissions,
but before we get underway and before I ask if there is anything
you would like to say by way of opening could I just ask you each
to introduce yourselves so that it is on the record. Perhaps,
Dr Golby, if we start with you.
(Dr Golby) I am Paul Golby. I am president of the
Electricity Association and also chief executive of Powergen.
(Mr Latif) Itret Latif, Gas Board chairman, also Scottish
& Southern Energy Gas business manager.
(Miss Love) Angela Love, Gas Board executive director
and energy commercial manager from Scottish Power.
(Mr Barnard) Good afternoon. I am Roger Barnard, regulatory
law manager for London Electricity Group.
499. Thank you very much. Is there anything
either organisation would like to say before we put questions
(Dr Golby) I think, my Lord Chairman, we have submitted
comprehensive written evidence and I think in the interests of
giving you the maximum opportunity for questioning we would propose
that we go straight into questioning.
