Irrespective of the provisions of the Public Interest
Disclosure Act 1998, I do not believe that it would have been
appropriate for me to identify in my letter to The Prime Minister
the identity of the company visited during the course of the Russian
Butter Export Refund Investigation. Further information relating
to the investigation should be obtained from the Chief Executive,
Intervention Board Executive Agency.
I would be grateful if Members of Parliament on the
Standards and Privileges Committee could investigate the conduct
of Mr Keith Vaz, Member for Leicester East, to ascertain why he
sought to involve himself in a confidential and politically sensitive
