DRAFT BILL: ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIT
1. The Bill set out below is intended to:
- Give the Comptroller and Auditor General the
duty to (a) report on departments' environmental impacts within
the conduct of existing value for money studies where relevant,
and (b) report on departmental performance against relevant targets
for the promotion of sustainable development set by Her Majesty's
- Establish an Environmental Auditor General as an
new independent office within the National Audit Office to (a)
assist in implementing the environmental dimension of value for
money studies, and (b) carry out studies of departmental performance
against relevant targets for the promotion of sustainable development,
including reporting to the House of Commons, on behalf of the
Comptroller and Auditor General.
- Establish the Environmental Audit Committee as
the Committee to which the Environmental Auditor General relates
in like manner to the Comptroller and Auditor General's relationship
to the Committee of Public Accounts.
