Correspondence with Ministers October 2006 to April 2007 - European Union Committee Contents

SUCCESSION AND WILLS (7027/05)

Letter from the Chairman to Rt Hon Baroness Ashton of Upholland, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department for Constitutional Affairs

Thank you for your letter of 4 September 2006[106] which was considered by Sub-Committee E at its meeting on 25 October. We fully support the Government's Response to the Commission and are pleased to see that the Government share all the concerns of the Committee set out in my letter of 13 June 2005.[107] We note that views have been expressed in the European Parliament in support of legislative action at Union level. We agree with the Government that any such action needs to be based on proven need and be consistent with both the Better Regulation principles and with subsidiarity. Like you we will be watching developments with interest.

The Committee decided to clear the proposal from scrutiny.
