Prayers were read by the Lord Bishop of Rochester. 1 Lord Pym The Lord Speaker informed the House that Lord Pym, a member of the House, had died on 7 March 2008. Public Business 2 Crime: honour-related violence A question was asked by Baroness Cox and answered by Lord West of Spithead. 3 Climate change: South-East Africa A question was asked by Baroness Rawlings and answered by Baroness Crawley. 4 Food: regulations A question was asked by Earl Howe and answered by Baroness Thornton. 5 Citizenship A question was asked by Baroness Warsi and answered by Baroness Andrews. 6 Sunday Trading (Horticulture) Bill [HL] The Earl of Courtown presented a bill to amend the Sunday Trading Act 1994 in connection with the sale of horticultural supplies. It was read a first time and ordered to be printed. (HL Bill 39) 7 Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill The bill was further considered in Committee, beginning with amendment 156. Amendments were agreed to. The House resumed after amendment 174B. 8 Animal welfare: infectious diseases A question was asked by Baroness Byford and, after debate, answered by Lord Rooker. The House adjourned at 8.49pm until Tuesday 11 March at 2.30pm. Judicial Business 1 Whaley and another (Appellant) v Lord Advocate (Respondent) (Scotland) Further to the Order of the House of 28 November 2007 (5th Report, Session 2007-08; [2007] UKHL 53) it was ordered that the appellant do pay or cause to be paid to the respondent her costs in this House, the amount of such costs to be certified by the Clerk of the Parliaments if not agreed between the parties. 2 Condeú Nast Publications Limited (Respondents) v Her Majestys Revenue and Customs (Appellants) Further to the Order of the House of Wednesday 23 January 2008 (12th Report, Session 2007-08; [2008] UKHL 2) it was ordered that the appellants do pay or cause to be paid to the respondents their costs in this House and below, the amount of such costs in this House to be Page 364 2007-08 Volume 241 Back to topcertified by the Clerk of the Parliaments if not agreed between the parties, and the amount of such costs in Her Majestys Court of Appeal and below to be determined by a Costs Judge if not agreed between the parties; and that the appellants do pay or cause to be paid to the respondents their costs of intervening in Her Majestys Court of Appeal in the Cause Fleming (t/a Bodycraft) against Her Majestys Revenue and Customs, the amount of such costs to be determined by a Costs Judge if not agreed between the parties.3 HK (Turkey) (FC) (Petitioner) v Secretary of State for the Home Department (Respondent) The petition of HK praying for leave to appeal was presented and referred to an Appeal Committee. The petitioners legal aid certificate was lodged (lodged 6 March). 6 Knowsley Housing Trust (Respondents) v White (FC) (Appellant) 7 Ansell (also known as Marley) (FC) (Appellant) v London and Quadrant Housing Trust (Respondents) The petition of the appellants praying that the appeals be conjoined; that they be allowed to lodge separate statements of facts and issues, one appendix and separate cases in respect of the appeals and that they be represented by two junior counsel and one leading counsel; and that the respondents have leave to lodge separate cases and be separately represented (the agents for the respondents consenting thereto) was presented; and it was ordered as prayed. The second appellants certificate of public funding was lodged. 8 Appeal Committee The 41st Report from the Appeal Committee was agreed to and the following Order was made: In re Doherty (Original Respondent and Cross-appellant) (Northern Ireland) That leave to cross-appeal be granted; and that the petition of cross-appeal be lodged by 24 March.
