Letter from Lord Pearson to the Chairman
Could I add a P.S. to my letter of yesterday
inspired by your helpful intervention on my starred Q (yesterday)?
This is that it would be helpful if your new
initiative could report on how often the scrutiny reserve has
been over-ridden by the Government over recent years, say since
1996? When I was on the Committee (1992-96) the Government used
the over-ride quite sparingly, and usually with some semblance
of good reason. How often have they used it in each year since
then, and what were their resons? I hope this is helpful.
