DRAFT REGULATORY REFORM (ASSURED PERIODIC
TENANCIES) (RENT INCREASES) ORDER 2003|
14. On 15 October 2002, the Government laid before
Parliament a proposal for a draft Regulatory Reform (Assured Periodic
Tenancies)(Rent Increases) Order 2003, together with a Statement
by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. We reported on the
Government's proposals on 18 December 2002.
15. The order concerns periodic assured tenancies
of less than one month. Its amends section 13 of the Housing Act
1988 so as to enable landlords to increase rents on the same day
16. In our earlier Report, we recommended no
changes to the draft which we considered. No amendments have been
made to the draft by the Government.
17. In our first Report on this proposal,
we concluded that it was appropriate to be made under the Regulatory
Reform Act 2001. We remain of this view, and therefore recommend
that the order, as it now stands, is in a form satisfactory to
be submitted to the House for affirmative resolution.
