7.House of Lords’ Offices—It was moved by the Chairman of Committees that the 4th Report from the Select Committee (HL Paper 45) be agreed to; after debate, the motion was agreed to.
8.Financial Services and Markets Bill—It was moved by the Lord McIntosh of Haringey that the House do now again resolve itself into a Committee upon the bill; after debate, the motion was (by leave of the House) withdrawn; a statement was made; then the House resolved itself into a Committee upon the bill; an amendment was agreed to (see division list 1); amendments were moved and (by leave of the Committee) withdrawn; amendments were agreed to; the question that a clause stand part of the bill was negatived; an amendment was disagreed to (see division list 2); the House was resumed.
9.British history—The Lord Luke asked Her Majesty’s Government whether the teaching of British history in schools is satisfactory; after debate, the question was answered by the Lord Bach.
10.Financial Services and Markets Bill—The House again resolved itself into a Committee upon the bill; amendments were moved and (by leave of the Committee) withdrawn; amendments were agreed to; the questions that clauses stand part of the bill were negatived; the House was resumed after amendment 241M.
