Select Committee on European Communities Twelfth Report

Conclusion

399. The Committee's recommendations throughout this Part of our Report (and, for convenience, also brought together in Part 1) cover a variety of individual topics relating to renewable energy. Taken on their own, these individual points tell only part of the story. Even tackling all of them will not be enough.

400. The world's energy problems will not go away. Indeed, there is every reason to think that people have barely begun to appreciate the difficulties the future may bring. Renewable energy can help meet these challenges, but it is not enough on its own. It is only one component of the integrated strategies necessary to reduce consumption, secure future energy needs and combat climate change.

401. The Committee considers that the development of renewable energy raises important questions to which the attention of the House should be drawn, and makes this Report to the House for debate.
