Select Committee on Delegated Powers and Deregulation Twenty-Ninth Report

SPECIAL REPORT FOR SESSION 1998-99 - THE COMMITTEE'S WORK

PART 3: CONCLUSION

77.  When the Committee was first established, it was based, with modifications, on the Australian Senate's Scrutiny of Bills Committee. Since then the Committee has looked from time to time at Committee activity in other Parliaments, and found these Committees a fruitful source of ideas. In this report we have made a number of observations about our work during the 1998-99 session, together with recommendations about our work in the future. As always, it is for the Liaison Committee and the House as a whole to decide whether the Committee's terms of reference need modification. The Committee exists in order to serve the House, and we always welcome suggestions as to how we might do so better.[38]
