[In substitution for the amendment printed on sheet HL Bill 61(b)]
 
     Insert the following new Clause-- 
     ("  .--(1)  This Act shall not come into force until the people of the United Kingdom have approved their coming into force in a referendum.
 
    (2)  The question to be put on such referendum shall be--
    Do you wish to retain the House of Lords as constituted with the Hereditary Peerage until enactment of a Bill to establish a successor House [YES/NO].")

     Page 2, line 3, leave out subsections (1) and (2) and insert--
 
    ("(1)  This Act shall come into force on such day after its commencement has been approved in the referendum referred to in section (Referendum) as the Secretary of State may by order made by statutory instrument appoint.")
