Before Clause 1
 
  
BY THE LORD CAMPBELL OF ALLOWAY
THE LORD CHALFONT
THE LORD NAPIER AND ETTRICK
 
     Insert the following new Clause-- 
     ("  .--(1)  Sections 1 to 3 and 4(3) and (4) of this Act shall not come into force until the people of the United Kingdom have approved their coming into force in a referendum.
 
    (2)  The question to be put on such referendum shall be--
    Do you wish to retain the House of Lords as constituted with the Hereditary Peerage until enactment of a Bill to establish a successor House [YES/NO].")

After Clause 3
 
  
BY THE EARL OF LAUDERDALE
 
     Insert the following new Clause-- 
     ("  .  The House of Lords shall make provision for hereditary peers who cease to be members of the House of Lords by virtue of this Act to retain their right to host welfare and charitable events in the Palace of Westminster.")Hereditary peers to be able to host charitable events in Palace of Westminster.
