Bus Lane Infringements

Lord Berkeley asked Her Majesty's Government:

Baroness Blatch: The information requested is not separately identified in the statistics collected centrally.

Prisoners: Suicides

Lord Harris of Greenwich asked Her Majesty's Government:

Baroness Blatch: Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter to Lord Harris of Greenwich from the Director of Personnel of the Prison Service, Mr. David Scott, dated 25th July 1996.

Lady Blatch has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question about the number of suicides that have occurred amongst prisoners in each of the past three years.

All self-inflicted deaths do not necessarily conclude with a verdict of suicide. The statistics provided therefore include deaths where verdicts of accidental death, open and misadventure were reached.
