26th Report 2001-02

5.1  In the 2001-02 session, we took the view that a similar Bill, by requiring companies to make certain information available to the public and by interfering with the right of a company to use its resources as it sees fit, might interfere with the right to respect for private life etc. under ECHR Article 8 and the right to peaceful enjoyment of possessions under Article 1 of Protocol 1 to the ECHR. We published a letter to Linda Perham MP, the Member responsible for the Bill: see Twenty-sixth Report of the Committee of last Session.[19]

5.2 The present Bill, also introduced by Linda Perham MP, raises the same issues. Our Chair has written to Ms Perham. We have received a response sent on Ms Perham's behalf by S E Cohen. The correspondence is published as an appendix to this Report, and we draw it to the attention of each House.
