  It is moved by Sir Patrick Cormack, That the Lord Hobhouse of Woodborough take the Chair for the present Session of Parliament; the same is agreed to.

  The Lord Hobhouse of Woodborough in the Chair.

  The European Parliamentary Elections Bill [H.L.] is considered.

IN THE TITLE

  The Title of the Bill is read and postponed.

IN THE CLAUSES

  Clauses 1-18 are read and agreed to.

IN THE SCHEDULES

  Schedules 1-4 are read and agreed to.

IN THE TITLE

  The Title is again read and agreed to.

  The Chairman lays the following draft Report before the Committee—

  The Committee has considered the European Parliamentary Elections Bill [HL]. The Committee has heard evidence on the changes made to the Bill since it considered an earlier version in session 1999-2000. The Committee is of the opinion that the Bill is pure consolidation and represents the existing law. There are no points to which the special attention of Parliament should be drawn.

  The same is agreed to.

  It is ordered, That the draft report be the First Report of the Joint Committee.

  It is ordered, That the Lord in the Chair do make the Report to the House of Lords and that Sir Patrick Cormack do make the Report to the House of Commons and do report the Minutes of Evidence taken before the Committee.

  It is ordered, That the Committee be adjourned sine die.
