Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments Eighth Report

Memorandum by the Department of Health

Wyre Forest Primary Care Trust (Establishment) Order 2001 (S.I. 2001/66)

1. The Committee has requested a memorandum on the following point in relation to the above Order.

Explain why the text of this instrument occupies 8 pages (including 2 blank pages), instead of 4 pages (ending with the Explanatory Note), thereby increasing the purchase price. The Department's attention is drawn to Statutory Instrument Practice Circular No. 2(98) dated 12 March 1998.

2. The Department apologises for the error which led to the text of the instrument occupying 8 pages.

3. This error appears to have been made on the part of the printers, but was not noticed during the proofing process.

4. The Department will reiterate to all relevant personnel the need to comply with the Circular, so that proofs are thoroughly checked to minimise the amount of blank space in Statutory Instruments. The Department will take all necessary steps to ensure that the same error does not appear in future Statutory Instruments.
