Memorandum by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions

RAIL ACCESSIBILITY (CROYDON TRAMLINK CLASS CR 4000 VEHICLES)
EXEMPTION ORDER 2000 (S.I. 2000/6)

  1. The Committee has requested a memorandum on the following point:

    Article 5 specifies the dates when the exemptions granted in respect of certain provisions of the 1998 Regulations are to cease. Explain whether it is intended that the exemptions granted in respect of regulations 13(5)(a) and 19(4) should have no time limit.

  2. The Department confirms that the exemptions granted in respect of regulations 13(5)(a) and 19(4) are intended to have no time limits and so to last for the lives of the vehicles, subject to the geographical limitation imposed by article 6(1) on the exemption from regulation 13(5)(a).
