Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments Thirty-First Report

APPENDIX 8

Memorandum by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

PITCAIRN (AMENDMENT) ORDER 2000 (S.I. 2000/1340)
PITCAIRN COURT OF APPEAL ORDER 2000 (S.I. 2000/1341)

1. The Committee has requested a Memorandum in respect of the above instruments on the following point:

Both these Orders were laid before Parliament on 25 May 2000 but copies were not sent t o the Committee until much later (S.I. 2000/1340 was sent on 4 September, and S.I. 2000/1341 was sent on 25 August). Explain the reason for the delay.

2. The delay is regretted. Copies of these Orders were only sent to the Committee when they had been re-issued with corrections to errors in the originals. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office accept that copies of the Orders should have been sent to the Committee when the Orders were laid before Parliament on 25 May 2000. It is also regretted that the opportunity to explain the delay was not taken when the Orders in their corrected form were sent to the Committee.
