LEGAL ADVICE AND ASSISTANCE (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS (NORTHERN IRELAND) 1999 (S.R. 1999/131)

  1. This Memorandum is submitted at the request of the Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments in response to their letter of 21 April 1999 in which they asked for a Memorandum on the following point:

    "As respects each of the maximum contribution amounts in the new table in Schedule 2 (inserted by regulation 2), specify the corresponding amounts before this instrument came into force."

  3. The table of maximum contribution amounts set out in the new table in Schedule 2 (inserted by regulation 3) remains the same as the table of contributions before the instrument came into force, save for at the highest disposable income range where changes have been made to take account of a new maximum contribution amount at the highest level of disposable income which qualifies for advice and assistance. The disposable income bands have been uplifted a because the table of disposable income levels which are used to assess the maximum contributions have been altered in line with the Retail Price Index.
