Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments Thirteenth Report

APPENDIX II

Memorandum by the Northern Ireland Office

ROYAL ULSTER CONSTABULARY RESERVE (FULL-TIME) (APPOINTMENT AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS 1997 (S.R. 1997 NO. 363)

ROYAL ULSTER CONSTABULARY RESERVE (PART-TIME) (APPOINTMENT AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS 1997 (S.R. 1997 NO. 364)

  1. The Committee has requested a memorandum to explain whether, as the above instruments corrected errors in earlier instruments, they were provided free of charge to all known recipients of those earlier instruments and, if so, why they do not bear a headnote to that effect.

  2. Copies of all instruments issued by this office, as opposed to those sold by Stationery Office Bookshops, are issued free of charge routinely. As a consequence, all known recipients of the original regulations did receive copies of the amendments free of charge.

  3. The requirement, in this case, to include a headnote to that effect was overlooked. The Northern Ireland Office regrets the oversight.
