Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments Eighth Report

Memorandum by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

The Committee has asked whether there have been any prior commencement orders under the Antarctic Act 1994 and, if so, for particulars and why such information was not given in a note printed with the order.

There have been two prior commencement orders. The first was the Antarctic Act 1994 (Commencement) Order 1995 (S.I. 1995/2748), which brought into force sections 1, 2, 8-32, 33 (partially) and 34-36 on 1 November 1995. The second was the Antarctic Act 1994 (Commencement) Order 1996 (S.I. 1966/2666), which brought into force section 7 on 1 November 1996.

It is regretted that due to an oversight information about prior commencement orders was not given in a note printed with the order (or the previous commencement order), as required by paragraph 2.84 of the Statutory Instrument Practice.
