Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments Fourth Report

Memorandum by the Lord Chancellor's Department

  1. By a letter dated 11 June 1997, the Joint Committee on Statutory Instruments has requested the Department to submit a memorandum on the following point:

"The principal instrument has been extensively amended each year since it was made in 1989. Indicate, in the light of this, whether an early consolidation is planned.".

  2. Although there have been regular amendments to these Regulations, the Department does not consider that these cause a problem since practitioners and users of the legal aid system are kept informed of amendments through the "Legal Aid Handbook" prepared by the Legal Aid Board. This volume is published annually and includes any amendments which have taken place since the previous publication.
