Prorogation

Subject to the progress of business the House will prorogue on Thursday 7th November ending the 2001-02 session The new session will start with the Queen's Speech and State Opening of Parliament on Wednesday 13th November

Andrew Hunter MP

Andrew Hunter MP has announced that he has resigned the Conservative whip. He will sit as an Independent Conservative MP until the next general election

Northern Ireland Office

New Ministerial portfolios have been announced following the suspension of devolved government in Northern Ireland:

Jane Kennedy MP Minister of State, will retain her current NIO responsibilities and assume responsibility for the Department of Education and the Department of Employment and Learning.

Des Browne MP Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State will retain his current NIO responsibilities and assume responsibility for the Department for Social Development, the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, Equality, Human Rights and Community Relations.

Ian Pearson MP Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, will assume responsibility for the Department of Finance and Personnel, the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Economic Policy Unit and Europe.

Angela Smith MP Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, will assume responsibility for the Department of the Environment, the Department for Regional Development and the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure.

Non Sitting Fridays

29 June, 6 July, 7 and 14 December 2001 and 15 February, 22 March, 3 and 17 May, 14 and 28 June 2002. The House will not sit on any other Friday until the end of the current session.

Private Members' Bills

26 October, 2, 23 and 30 November 2001; 11, 18 and 25 January, 15 March, 12 & 19 April, 10 May, 21 June and 19 July 2002.
