COMMENTARY

  1.  These figures exclude around £2.7 billion of Revenue Support Grant funding for local authorities, which is included in Table A3 (p99) of "Transport 2010: The 10 Year Plan". This is because Revenue Support Grant is not included in the Department Expenditure Limit (DEL) for Transport and is not monitored on a monthly basis as part of the Plan. This funding is part of the Local Government DEL and data on actual expenditure is only collected on an annual basis.

  2.  Figures taken from Table A1 (p98) in "Transport 2010: The 10 Year Plan".

  3.  The "Actual spend" figure for Rail for the year to date is higher than the "Forecast Outturn" figure because a large repayment of the loan provided to Railtrack's Administrator's is expected in March 2002.

  4.  The Rail Forecast Outturn figure is substantially higher than the "Published 10 Year Plan" figure because extra funding has been provided since the Plan was published. This additional funding is part of the £4.5 billion of extra Rail 10 Year Plan funding announced by the Secretary of State on 29 January 2002.

  5.  The Local Transport published 10 Year Plan figures includes £19 million of Countryside Agency Rural Transport Development and Partnership funding. This amount is not included in the other columns in this table. This is because funding for the Countryside Agency's Rural Transport programmes transferred to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs following the machinery of Government changes last year.

  6.  The Londons category includes Transport for London and London Underground.

  7.  London's "Forecast Outturn" figure is substantially higher than the "Published 10 Year Plan" figure because extra funding has been provided since the Plan was published.

  8.  Other Transport Areas includes Aviation, Logistics and Maritime, Transport Security, Transport Strategy and other Road Transport (including Road Safety). It excludes the Driver Vehicle Operator (DVO) Agencies (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, Driving Standards Agency, Vehicle Inspectorate and Vehicle Certification Agency) and Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) because these were not included in the Plan.

  9.  Figures may not sum exactly due to rounding.
