Letter to Mr John Maxton MP from the Parliamentary
Commissioner for Standards
I have received a further complaint from Mr Dean
Nelson. He tells me that he has received a copy of a letter from
you to Ms Lesley Quinn dated 10 November 1999. I enclose a copy
of the letter in question and Mr Nelson's e-mail to me.
So that I may decide whether any further enquiry
is warranted I would be grateful to receive your comments on this
letter. In particular, would you let me know
1. What help did your staff provide to Ms Quinn,
during which time periods and for what purpose?
2. What resources did you think that "MP's
should look at to find ways to help the Scottish Party"?
3. Which of your colleagues did not agree with
you and with what did they not agree? Please give the names of
the Members concerned.
4. Since the letter appears to concern the period
relevant to my enquiry, this letter may have been a document relevant
to my enquiry. Please would you explain why you did not draw it
to my attention and whether you believe it to have been relevant.
I would be grateful for a reply as soon as possible
but in any event by 27th April 2001. If you would prefer to discuss
this matter with me in the first instance perhaps you would telephone
