The Committee deliberated.

Draft Special Report (The Government's Response to the Science and Technology Committee's Third Report on Science Education from 14 to 19), proposed by the Chairman, brought up and read.

Ordered, That the draft Special Report be read a second time, paragraph by paragraph.

Paragraphs 1 to 4 read and agreed to.

Resolved, That the Report be the Sixth Special Report of the Committee to the House.

Ordered, That the Chairman do make the Report to the House.

Ordered, That the Responses from the Government, the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and the Joint Council for General Qualifications to the Third Report on Science Education from 14 to 19, be appended to the Report.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee do take oral evidence from the incoming Chief Executive of the Economic and Social Research Council and the Director General Innovation, Department of Trade and Industry.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee do seek written memoranda from University College London, Imperial College, the University of Manchester and the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology on the implications of their proposed merger for Science and Technology.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee do take oral evidence from the Minister of State for School Standards on the Government's reply to the Committee's Report on Science Education from 14 to 19.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee do inquire into international collaboration.—(The Chairman.)
