The Committee deliberated.

Ordered, That Professor Dennis Anderson and Mr Nick Otter be appointed Specialist Advisers to assist the Committee in its inquiry entitled Towards a Non-carbon Fuel Economy: Research, Development and Demonstration.—(The Chairman.)

Draft objectives, proposed by the Chairman, brought up, read and agreed to.

Resolved, That the objectives be the objectives of the Committee.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee do take oral evidence from the Minister for Science and Innovation on the Science Budget allocations.—(The Chairman.)

Draft Report (Government funding of the scientific learned societies), proposed by the Chairman, brought up and read.

Ordered, That the draft Report be read a second time, paragraph by paragraph.

Paragraphs 1 to 100 read and agreed to.

Ordered, That the summary be an annex to the Report.—(The Chairman.)

Ordered, That the note on visits made in the course of the inquiry be an annex to the Report.—(The Chairman.)

Ordered, That the list of scientific learned societies be an annex to the Report.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Report be the Fifth Report of the Committee to the House.

Ordered, That the Chairman do make the Report to the House.

Ordered, That the provisions of Standing Order No. 134 (Select committees (reports)) be applied to the Report.

Several papers were ordered to be appended to the Minutes of Evidence.

Ordered, That the Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence taken before the Committee be reported to the House.—(The Chairman.)

Several papers were ordered to be reported to the House.
