Draft Special Report (The Government's Response to the Science and Technology Committee's Fourth Report, Session 2000-01, on The Scientific Advisory System), proposed by the Chairman, brought up and read.

Ordered, That the draft Special Report be read a second time, paragraph by paragraph.

Paragraphs 1 and 2 read and agreed to.

Resolved, That the Report be the First Special Report of the Committee to the House.

Ordered, That the Chairman do make the Report to the House.

Ordered, That the Government's Response to the Fourth Report, Session 2000-01, on The Scientific Advisory System, be appended to the Report.—(The Chairman.)

Ordered, That the Government's Response to the Seventh Report, Session 2000-01, on The Scientific Advisory System, together with a Memorandum from National Grid, be appended to the Report.— (The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee do hold an inquiry to follow up the Science and Technology Committee's First Report on Cancer Research — A Fresh Look .— (The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee do invite the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry to give oral evidence to the Committee.— (The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee do visit the Research Councils in Swindon on 23 and 24 January 2002. — (The Chairman.)
