INDUSTRY UNDER SEVERE THREAT
UP TO 3,600 JOBS AT RISK IN QUARRYING AND RELATED INDUSTRIES

If we consider that Southern hauliers can haul 20-25 miles for Stg£1.60/tonne, then Southern product will be cheaper than Northern product anywhere within 20 miles of the border. Approximately half of N Ireland falls within this area. The above map shows just how close to the border the Rep of Ireland producers are. In effect, tax free Southern product will always be cheaper than Northern product in any area within 20 miles of the border. Rep of Ireland product will dominate half of N Ireland!
