This table was taken from Part 2 of the Greening Government Third Annual Report 2001, which is available on the Government's Sustainable Development web site. URL: http://www.sustainable-development.gov.uk/gm2001/part2/index.asp.

Nineteen Departments in all were asked to provide data:

CO, HMCE, DCMS, DTLR, DFES, DEFRA, DH, DFID, DTI, DWP, ECGD, FCO, HMT, HO, IR, LOD, LCD, MOD, ONS.

As paragraph 5.59 of Part 1 of the Report explained: "Information on timber purchases by departments was due to be reported this year. However, the announcement of the commitment in the middle of the financial year has meant that much of departments' activity up to March 2001 was focused on raising awareness of the commitment amongst buyers and their suppliers. Seven departments were in a position to report on purchases of timber (including sawn timber, furniture, flooring and prefabricated units). The total spend reported by those departments was 5.5 million of which 87 per cent (3.6 million) was spend on products from certified or other sustainable sources. All departments have been asked to review data collection systems to ensure that they are in a position to report in full on timber purchases next year."

A list of Departmental officials who provided the information is at Appendix B to the Report (http://www.sustainable-development.gov.uk/gm2001/part1/annexb.htm).
