Select Committee on Environmental Audit Minutes of Evidence

Supplementary Memorandum Letter to the Clerk of the Committee from Mr Robert Andrew

I refer to my letter dated 21 June in which I promised I would look into various questions raised by the Committee on 12 June and provide supplementary information at a later date.

PROGRESS IMPLEMENTING GOVERNMENT TIMBER PROCUREMENT POLICY

Mr Barker—Questions seven and nine—asked what percentage of departments able to report on their timber purchases did in fact do so. I did not have the percentages available and said that they could be provided at a later date.

Enclosed with this letter is a table of spend on timber by those departments that were able to report on their purchases (Annex A). This indicates that 100 per cent of those that could report did in fact do so. I am not sure that I have fully understood the Committee's question and would endeavour to provide such further information as may be requested.

LETTER FROM THE RT HON MICHAEL MEACHER MP, MINISTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, TO GREEN MINISTERS

The Chairman—Question 23—asked for a copy of this letter which is hereby enclosed (Annex B).

RESPONSE TO THE SECOND REPORT OF THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON CONSUMER PRODUCTS AND THE

ENVIRONMENT

Joan Walley—Question 59—asked me if my response to the recommendations made in Chapter 6 of the above Report was positive.

I hereby confirm that in my view the recommendations reported in Chapter 6 merit further consideration and so my response is positive to that extent.
