Supplementary memorandum submitted by
Mr Robin Guthrie
I gather that you had a hearing last week on
the reorganisation of the Arts Council and the regional arts boards.
I look forward to seeing your report.
Will the Committee be looking further into the
costs and possible effects of this ill-advised reorganisation,
which is costly, disruptive and unnecessary, and rejected by the
majority of those who responded to the public consultation? The
Secretary of State had given her unequivocal support for the proposals
before that consultation: only the House of Commons, and primarily
your own Committee, can question the actions of the Executive
in such circumstances.
