Select Committee on Trade and Industry Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence

APPENDIX 6

Memorandum submitted by the Prestwick Joint Shop Steward & Monthly Staff Committees

  1.  The Prestwick site is currently working to supply medium to large sub-assembly aircraft components to various contractors world-wide. We are using the services of sub-contractors, both in the UK and abroad.

  2.  Whilst we are presently in a recruitment mode, there is a genuine fear that in the future the Company would be concentrating their manufacturing strategy on a higher skills level than at present.

  3.  We have already exited the lower skill level detail manufacture, which on the Avro RJ programme has resulted in the details for that programme being manufactured in Eastern Europe along with the sub-assemblies (Airbrakes) being manufactured in Uzbekistan.
