Letter to Mr Jonathan Upton from the Parliamentary
Commissioner for Standards
Thank you for your fax of today`s date.
I am glad to have your assurance that the Labour
Party documents I have seen are accurate.
I am sorry to tell you that your assertion that the
information I requested in my letter of 25 May has nothing to
do with the House of Commons or Members of Parliament is incorrect.
You will have seen that the notes 7 and 8 to the documents specifically
mention Dr Reid MP and Mr Maxton MP who, as you aware, are subject
to my investigation. (I enclose a copy of document 1.)
In my letter of 18 May I asked to check the audited
accounts to verify what was actually paid to Mr Chris Winslow
and Mr Kevin Reid. Would you please let me have that information
I am afraid to tell you that the lack of this information
is preventing me from concluding my investigation. I shall need
to report this delay to the Standards and Privileges Committee
on Tuesday next, 20 June 2000, unless you are able to provide
this information or let me know what difficulties you are facing
in assisting me.
