E-mail correspondence between the Mr John Maxton MP and the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards

Subject:Complaint by Dean Nelson

I am reluctantly following a letter from the Chairman of the Committee sending you answers to the questions you ask. They more than adequately answer the unsubstantiated allegations made by Dean Nelson. I therefore expect you to inform the Committee next Tuesday that you are dismissing the case against me. See the attachment. I will also put a hard copy on the Board.

Thank you for your e mail. I will let you know whether I need to bother you further when I have studied your answers. I will also let you know when I have prepared my report for the Committee and will let you see the draft before I draw my conclusions. If I do need to be in touch with you I will contact you on Monday 19th or during the week of 26th June when you said you will be available.

I told you I was not available on Monday. Given the total failure of anyone to produce any evidence against me I can see no reason why you cannot tell the Committee on Tuesday next week that you have dismissed the case. To drag it out further is simply perverse. Certainly I am not prepared to wait longer than the following Tuesday for a resolution of this matter.

Perhaps you would let me know when and where I may contact you should the need arise. I will only contact you if I need further clarification. As I told you I am still waiting for some items of information from others before I can write my report. This will not go to next weeks meeting as I have to write the report and allow you the opportunity to see it before reaching my conclusions.

You have my home number. Otherwise contact the Culture, Media & Sport Select Committee clerks who will tell you where I can be contacted. My mobile is — — —. Given the paucity of evidence in support of the allegations I do not understand what further information you can be seeking. As I say the following Tuesday is my absolute deadline. After that I go to the Committee and the Speaker for protection against your harassment.

Thank you for giving me the contact information in case I need it. I do apologise for any feeling of harassment which my investigation has given you. I am aware how unpleasant such enquiries are. I do hope you will bear with me while I complete my work properly.
