Letter to Mr John Cryer MP
from the Parliamentary Commissioner for
Further to my letter of 12 March 2001 I have now
had the opportunity to consider the complaints you have raised
against 18 Member of Parliament and to study the material you
I have decided to make preliminary enquiries into
your allegations concerning Mr Michael Fallon MP, Sir Michael
Spicer MP, Mr John Hayes MP, Mr Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP and
Mr Robert Syms MP.
When I have received responses for these Members
I will decide whether I would take the matter further.
I have looked carefully at the complaints which you
have made about the remaining 13 Members and I am not of the view
that the pecuniary interests, in these instances, were sufficiently
relevant to the debate in question for it to be reasonably thought
by others to have influenced the speech.
Thank you for drawing these matters to my attention.
I will write to you again in due course.
