Select Committee on Standards and Privileges Third Report

Annex 99

File Note by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards

MR KEITH VAZ, 11 JULY 2000, TELEPHONE CALL FROM ALAN GRATRIX

Mr Gratrix said he had now searched his attics and found that a cheque for £250 had been made by Mr Attwall towards the premises fund. He had also found a copy of a letter thanking Mr Attwall for hospitality for him and Keith Vaz when they visited Mr Attwall's factory. He believes this money would have gone into the 50 Club. I asked him why he called it the 50 Club and some people called it the 100 Club and he said because it had started out as 100 Club for 100 supporters but they had had to lower their sights. The idea behind the club was that it would help with running the office for Keith Vaz and the constituency. Mr Gratrix said he might have correspondence about the use of money to support the premises at Uppingham Road and if so he would let me have it.
