Select Committee on Environment, Transport and Regional Affairs Memoranda

Memorandum by Woodside Parish Council (CEM 100)

Woodside Parish Council, along with Waverton Parish Council and Wigton Town Council appoint representatives to the Wigton Burial Joint Committee, which runs the cemetery.

The WBJC sets its own budget, which is then proportionately precepted through the three Councils involved.

This arrangement has run more than satisfactorily for at least twenty-five years.

Wigton Cemetery is very well maintained, and is a credit to those who run it. This Council can see no reason why well-managed cemeteries, such as Wigton, should be run any differently.

Could you please register this Councils' view, that it does not wish to have the running of Wigton Cemetery taken over by any other body, when the situation is more than satisfactory as it is now. A locally administered cemetery is much more able to be run according to the wishes of the local people.

Clerk to the Council
