Select Committee on Environment, Transport and Regional Affairs Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence

Supplementary note by the Ports' Safety Organisation (P 07A)

MEETING OF THE TRANSPORT SUB-COMMITTEE HELD ON 21 MARCH 2001

With reference to the letter of 22 March and our subsequent telephone conversation, I confirm that PSO will send the Sub-Committee a note on the survey on the Non-Permanent Employee (NPE) Code of Practice. However, as explained at the hearing the Code was brought into effect on 1 October last year and the survey is due to be carried out six months after that. Accordingly, we will be issuing a survey response form in our next mailing to members on 30 March and we will have to allow at least one month for completed forms to be returned. We will then need some time to analyse the results before drawing conclusions. In the circumstances, I do not think I can realistically undertake to send the note to the Sub-Committee until the end of May. I do, however, undertake to ensure that it does not go beyond that date.

I hope that this is satisfactory.
