Examination of Witnesses (Questions 298
WEDNESDAY 14 MARCH 2001
JOHN A GOOD
298. Good afternoon to you gentlemen. You have
been very patient and I hope you will forgive us for making you
wait a moment or two. Would you like to identify yourselves?
(Mr Everard) I am Michael Everard, the Chairman of
FT Everard & Sons Limited, a short sea owner. I chair the
Ports and Pilotage Policy Committee at the Chamber of Shipping.
On my immediate left is David Astbury, who is the manager of shipping
policy in the Chamber of Shipping who deals with ports. On my
far left is Captain Stephen Bligh who is the Fleet Marine Manager
with P&O Nedlloyd Limited.
(Mr Good) I am John A Good, past President of the
Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. We represent ship owners as
agents, port agents throughout ports in the UK; generally overseas
owners but UK owners as well. Not only do we act as agents in
the ports, but we also oversee the requirements of our principals.
We also have to liaise closely with port authorities, shippers
or importers to assist them in delivery of their goods to and
from the port.
(Mr Williams) My name is Jonathan Williams. I work
at the Institute as part of the secretariat function.
299. Do you have anything you want to say before
(Mr Everard) No, we decided not to.
