1    Death of a Member,—The Speaker made the following communication to the House:

    I regret to have to report to the House the death of the Right Honourable Robin Cook, Member for Livingston. I am sure that Members on all sides of the House will join me in mourning the loss of a colleague and in extending our sympathy to the honourable Member's family and friends.

2    Writ issued during the Adjournment,—The Speaker acquainted the House that, during the Adjournment, pursuant to the Recess Elections Act 1975, the Speaker had issued his warrant to the Clerk of the Crown to make out a new Writ for the electing of a Member to serve in this present Parliament for the County Constituency of Livingston, in the room of the Right Honourable Robin Cook, deceased.

3    Standing Orders (Public Business),—Ordered, That the Standing Orders relating to Public Business be printed [No. 416].

4    New Member sworn,—James Devine, Member for Livingston, was sworn.
